John Kiriakou is a former CIA analyst and former investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He is also a former counter-terrorism consultant for ABC News, a blogger for the Huffington post and a noted Author. He is the first Government official to confirm the use of waterboarding as torture. Kiriakou pled guilty to disclosing classified information about a fellow CIA officer that connected the officer to a specific operation. Kiriakou thus became the second C.I.A. officer convicted of violation of the Intelligence Identities Protection Act and the first for passing along classified information to a reporter, although the reporter did not publish the name of the operative. He is serving a 30 month sentence.
PFC Bradley Manning is accused of releasing classified information to Wikileaks, who in turn released portions of the information to news organizations and the public. The information Manning Allegedly leaked included hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables and the Collateral Murder video, which depicts the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad. Two of the victims of this attack were Journalists working for Reuters. Although he has accepted a plea agreement regarding certain portions of his case, he remains imprisoned and his trial will continue.
